‘Duckweed’ is an installation in which the audience takes on the perspective of a water plant that has limited excess to sunlight due to a cover of duckweed on the water surface.
In a balanced ecosystem duckweed is a source of food. However, when there is an excessive amount of nutrients in the water combined with high temperatures, these tiny plants multiplicate quickly. When the surface of the water is completely covered, it will block sunlight from reaching water plants underneath. This can eventually lead to waters where the oxygen concentration is so low, that fish and other organisms can’t live
The installation will be on show in the group exhibition ‘Mikrocosmos’ at Natuurboerderij de Brinkhorst from 17 June - 15 Oct 2023.
